The Portland Pilots baseball team defeated the San Francisco Dons 11-0 in seven innings on Apr. 19, securing the series at Joe Etzel Field. The victory brings the Pilots’ overall record to 22-15 and their West Coast Conference record to 8-7.
This win is significant for Portland as it matches their total number of wins from last season and marks their third conference series victory this year. The strong performance reflects improvement in both pitching and hitting for the team.
Trey Swygart played a key role for Portland, contributing both offensively and defensively. Swygart went 1-for-2 at bat with an RBI and two runs scored, while also pitching 6.1 shutout innings with five strikeouts and allowing only four hits. His outing marked both a season high and career high in innings pitched, earning him his fourth win of the season.
Cole Katayama-Stall led the offense by going three-for-three with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored—his three hits being a personal season best. Gage Bruce added three RBIs on a double, matching his own season high for RBIs in a game. Nolan Miller contributed with two RBIs as well.
The Pilots started strong by scoring twice in the first inning through Katayama-Stall’s RBI double and Swygart’s sacrifice fly. They extended their lead steadily before breaking open the game with seven runs in the sixth inning, capitalizing on multiple RBI hits from several players including Carter Stewart.
Looking ahead, Portland will face the Washington Huskies at Ridgefield Baseball Complex during the NWBCA Classic scheduled for Tuesday evening.
