The Portland Pilots baseball team lost 8-1 to the Washington Huskies in the NCBWA College Classic, according to an April 21 report. The defeat brings Portland’s overall record to 22-16.

The game saw Portland limited to just two hits, one each from Brady Bean and Leo Cote. Bean’s ground-rule double accounted for the team’s only run. Starting pitcher Carter Gaston took the loss after allowing five runs and six hits over two innings. Five different pitchers appeared for Portland, with Aaron Louis throwing a team-high 2.1 innings without allowing a run but giving up three hits and three walks.

Washington scored five runs in the second inning, including a three-run home run by Jackson Hotchkiss. The Pilots responded with their lone run in the fourth inning on Bean’s double but were unable to close the gap as Washington added more runs later in the game.

Bean and Cote were both credited with one hit each, going 1-for-3 and 1-for-4 respectively. Bean’s career total of 110 RBIs ties him for eleventh all-time at Portland. Jonas Salk was hit by his forty-third career pitch during Tuesday’s game, keeping him fourth all-time for Portland in that category.

Looking ahead, the Pilots are scheduled to play a three-game series against Santa Clara Broncos starting Friday, April 24 at 6 p.m.
