Portland State softball lost both games of a doubleheader against Sacramento State on April 24, falling 5-1 in the first game and 3-0 in the second at Shea Stadium.

The losses bring Portland State’s record to 14-29 overall and 4-10 in Big Sky Conference play, while Sacramento State improves to 29-17 overall and 8-6 in conference games. The results impact both teams as they near the end of their regular season schedules.

In the opening game, Sacramento State scored early with one run in the first inning and three more in the second for a quick lead. Portland State managed its only run when Sierra Llamas singled up the middle to drive home Sherreigh Nakoa-Chung. The Hornets added another run in the fourth inning and held Portland State hitless for the remainder of the game, ending with a final score of 5-1. Nakoa-Chung pitched her fourteenth complete game this season but took her tenth loss, bringing her record to nine wins and ten losses. The Vikings had two hits from Llamas and Grace Johnson.

In game two, Sacramento State again took control early by scoring twice in the second inning—one on a solo home run and another on a sacrifice fly—and added an insurance run in the third inning. The Vikings’ offense was limited to just two hits once more, with Llamas recording one hit and Jolee Benson adding another. Gracie Walters pitched six innings for Portland State, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits.

The series between Portland State and Sacramento State will conclude Saturday at Shea Stadium with first pitch scheduled for noon.
