Portland State University announced on Apr. 16 that Jordyn Smith, a sophomore forward from Tigard, Oregon, has signed with the Vikings women’s basketball team for the upcoming season.
Smith’s addition is seen as an important move for Portland State as she brings both size and experience to the team’s inside game. She joins after a standout freshman year at NCAA Division II Cal Poly Humboldt, where she earned Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-Conference honors. During her freshman season, Smith led the California Collegiate Athletic Association in several categories including field goal percentage (.497), rebounds per game (10.8), blocks per game (3.1), and double-doubles (15).
Head coach Karlie Burris said of Smith: “Jordyn is a double-double machine. She will be our anchor on the low block with her size and athleticism. She gives us an inside presence, paint touches on the offensive end, and a rim protector on defense. Jordyn is an elite rebounder on both sides of the ball. We are thrilled to bring her back home.” As a freshman at Cal Poly Humboldt, Smith averaged 14 points per game in addition to her rebounding numbers and twice scored a season-high 24 points.
Smith’s high school career included helping Tualatin High School win the OSAA 6A state title in 2025 while being named second-team all-state as a senior and three-time first-team all-league selection. In that championship run, she averaged a tournament-best 11 rebounds per game and recorded 15 rebounds in the final against Clackamas.
Smith becomes the second player from Tualatin’s championship team to join Portland State this year, following incoming freshman Alex Padilla who signed earlier in the fall.
Looking ahead, Smith plans to major in child development while continuing her basketball career at Portland State.
