A Portland resident, Elizabeth Leslie, 32, appeared in federal court following allegations that she assaulted a federal law enforcement officer near the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in South Portland.
Court documents state that on October 18, 2025, Leslie was arrested after she allegedly lunged at and struck an officer in the chest while officers were clearing a path for vehicles to exit the ICE facility.
The United States Attorney’s Office has charged 35 individuals with federal crimes related to incidents at the ICE building since June 13, 2025. These charges include assaulting federal officers, failure to comply with orders, and damaging government property.
Leslie faces a felony charge of assaulting a federal officer. She made her initial appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge and was released under certain conditions while awaiting further proceedings.
“Felony assault of a federal officer is punishable by up to eight years in federal prison.”
“A criminal complaint is only an accusation of a crime, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.”
