A Portland resident, Oriana Korol, appeared in federal court after being charged with assaulting a federal law enforcement officer near the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in South Portland. Korol, 38, faces a felony charge following an incident on October 12, 2025.
Court documents state that federal officers detained Korol after she interfered with the arrest of another individual. During the detention, Korol allegedly kicked and bit a federal officer. She was subsequently arrested for assaulting a federal officer.
Since June 13, 2025, the United States Attorney’s Office has brought federal charges against 34 individuals for offenses at the ICE building. These charges include assaulting federal officers, failure to comply, and damaging government property.
Korol was released on conditions after her first appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge. The charge of felony assault on a federal officer carries a potential sentence of up to eight years in federal prison.
“A criminal complaint is only an accusation of a crime, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty,” according to the release.
