A Portland resident, Katherine Meagan Vogel, 39, appeared in federal court following an incident involving the assault of a federal officer near the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in South Portland.
Court documents state that on September 30, 2025, Vogel was detained after applying red paint to the driveway at the ICE facility. Federal officers brought her inside for questioning related to property damage. During processing, Vogel allegedly struck a federal officer in the jaw with her fist. She was then arrested on an additional charge of assaulting a federal officer.
Scott E. Bradford, U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon, commented: “Violence and property damage at the ICE building or any other federal building will not be tolerated. If you assault a federal law enforcement officer or damage federal property, you will be arrested and federally prosecuted.”
The U.S. Attorney’s Office has charged 28 individuals since June 13, 2025, with various offenses committed at the ICE facility. These charges include assaulting officers, failure to comply with orders, and damaging government property.
Vogel was released under certain conditions while awaiting further court proceedings. The felony charge she faces carries a potential sentence of up to eight years in prison.
Authorities emphasized that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation and that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
