A Portland resident, Lisa Miyamoto, appeared in federal court after being charged with assaulting a federal law enforcement officer near the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in South Portland. According to information from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon, the incident occurred on October 19, 2025.
Court documents state that federal officers were stationed outside the ICE facility to clear its vehicle entrance when Miyamoto allegedly struck an officer with a wooden tambourine. She was subsequently arrested by law enforcement at the scene.
The United States Attorney’s Office reported that since June 13, 2025, it has charged 36 individuals with federal offenses committed near ICE facilities. These charges have included assault on federal officers, failure to comply with official orders, and damage to government property.
Miyamoto faces a felony charge of assaulting a federal officer. She made her initial appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge and was released under certain conditions while awaiting further proceedings.
Felony assault of a federal officer carries a maximum sentence of eight years in federal prison.
Officials emphasized that “a criminal complaint is only an accusation of a crime, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.”
