A Portland resident, Temika Gardner, 40, appeared in federal court after being charged with assaulting a federal officer. The charge stems from an incident on October 23, 2025, when Gardner allegedly interfered with Immigration and Customs Enforcement Deportation Officers following a lawful arrest.

Court documents state that after an arrestee attempted to escape, officers regained control and began escorting the individual back. Gardner reportedly intervened by placing her hands on the officers multiple times to hinder their movement. She is accused of striking one officer in the face, removing his face covering, and throwing it to the ground. Gardner also allegedly swung at a second officer twice, knocking off his sunglasses. As officers focused on the arrestee, Gardner reportedly pulled the face mask of a third officer with enough force to pull him backward. She was arrested after allegedly swinging at a fourth officer and striking him on the left side of his jaw.

Gardner made her initial court appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge and was released pending further proceedings.

Homeland Security Investigations is conducting the investigation. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon is prosecuting the case.

“A criminal complaint is only an accusation of a crime, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon.
