The grand opening of Redmond’s new $65 million cancer center was held on April 17, drawing a large crowd next to the city’s hospital.
The event marked an important step for cancer care in Central Oregon, as the facility aims to provide more accessible treatment options for residents in Redmond and surrounding communities. The 53,000-square-foot center is expected to serve up to 300 patients each day and will officially begin seeing patients on Monday.
St. Charles Health System staff joined community members at the celebration. Speakers included Mari Shay, service line administrator for cancer services; Dr. Steve Gordon, president and CEO; Dr. Linyee Chang, executive medical director; and Mike Caccavano, a former engineer for the city of Redmond who received treatment at the old center.
Following remarks from these speakers, attendees participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony before touring the new facility on their own.
The opening of this cancer center represents an expansion of health services available locally and is intended to improve access for residents not only in Redmond but also in Madras, Prineville, Sisters, Warm Springs, Culver and other parts of Central Oregon.
