Revival Animal Health announced on Apr. 17 a voluntary recall of Breeder’s Edge Foster Care Canine and Shelter’s Choice Canine Milk Replacers because of variable vitamin D levels in some products. The company advised consumers to stop feeding the affected products to their dogs immediately.
The recall is important as dogs that ingest high amounts of vitamin D may show symptoms such as vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss. Prolonged exposure can result in serious health issues including kidney dysfunction. Consumers whose pets have consumed the recalled products and are experiencing these symptoms are urged to contact their veterinarian.
The affected milk replacers were distributed nationwide through online platforms and retail pet stores. They come in various sizes ranging from 12-ounce jars to large stand-up resealable bags. Specific product names include Shelter’s Choice Canine Milk Replacer (1 lb., 3.5 lb., and 8 lb.) and Breeder’s Edge Foster Care Canine Milk Replacer (12 oz, 4.5 lb., 18 lb., and 20 lb.), with best-by dates spanning from May 2026 through February 2028.
Two complaints involving rickets have been reported so far related to these products. The company initiated the recall after an investigation found both low and elevated levels of vitamin D in certain batches. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is aware of this recall.
Consumers who purchased any affected product should discontinue use right away and may return it for a full refund by contacting Revival Animal Health at the provided phone number during business hours.
