Portland women’s tennis players Alaia Rubio Perez and Meagan Pearson were named to the 2026 West Coast Conference (WCC) All-Academic Team, according to an April 22 announcement. Three other Portland players received honorable mention recognition.
Academic honors in collegiate sports highlight student-athletes who excel both on the court and in the classroom. The recognition of Rubio Perez and Pearson underscores their achievements during the season as well as their academic commitment.
Rubio Perez, who will graduate this spring with a degree in operations and technology management, has maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.83 over her four years at Portland. She was recently named All-WCC honorable mention in singles and doubles play, posting a singles record of 17-14 while playing at the top spot during dual matches.
Pearson has achieved Dean’s List status each semester on campus so far, holding a cumulative GPA of 3.96 while pursuing a degree in management information systems. This season marked her best performance on court with thirteen overall singles wins, including eight in dual matches; she also recorded an 8-7 record in dual doubles matches.
Honorable mention all-academic recognition went to three other Portland players: Lexie Flores (psychology major with a GPA of 3.70), Maria Galatescu (computer science major with a GPA of 3.25), and Nadine Arbaizar Martinez (biology major with a GPA of 3.42).
The Pilots finished their regular season with ten wins overall—matching their highest win total since the team’s strong performance in 2015—and qualified for the WCC Championships for the fourth consecutive year under head coach Filip Zivkovic. The team enters postseason play as the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 LMU on Thursday at Green Valley Country Club.
