The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will close the westbound OR 126B Main Street Bridge in Springfield starting December 1 to carry out repairs, replace bridge joints, and install a new bike ramp. The project also includes repaving a section on the east side of the bridge.

ODOT stated that closing the bridge temporarily will allow work to be completed more quickly and safely. During the closure, both directions of traffic will use the South A Street Bridge. There will be a temporary connection from South A Street Bridge to the roundabout for westbound traffic, along with a new temporary traffic pattern in the roundabout and lane closures to manage safety.

Pedestrians and bicyclists are directed to use South A Street Bridge. Local freight and passenger vehicles can either use this bridge or detour via Pioneer Parkway and OR 126. Larger freight and oversized vehicles should use OR 126 / Bob Straub Parkway as an alternative route.

Construction activities are expected mostly during daytime hours. Lane and shoulder closures may occur as needed, with flaggers present when crews set up cones and barrels. Construction noise and delays are anticipated, but businesses in the area will remain open throughout the project. The full bridge closure is scheduled to last three weeks, with detours provided.

ODOT encourages drivers to pay attention in work zones, slow down, move over for workers, and observe all construction signs. “Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers,” ODOT advised in its announcement. Fines for violations double in all Oregon work zones regardless of whether workers or signs are present.

For more information about current road projects in the community or to explore an interactive map of ongoing construction, residents can visit ODOT’s project webpage or TripCheck.com for real-time road conditions.

Questions about the project can be directed to Mindy McCartt, Public Information Officer at 503-507-6045.

ODOT also provides translation services upon request: “For ADA Title II or Civil Rights Title VI accommodations, alternate formats, translation/interpretation services or for additional information call TTY (800) 735-2900 or use the statewide Oregon Relay Service: 7-1-1.”

The department reminds job seekers that it is currently recruiting for positions that provide vital services across Oregon.
