The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) is proud to announce Portland State basketball player Trey Wood and Portland State softball player Emily Johansen as 2022 All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year Award recipients.
The award recognizes Wood's and Johansen's athletic accomplishments and their dedication to strength and conditioning. Nominated by Assistant Athletic Director for Strength and Conditioning Scott Fabian of Portland State, Wood's and Johansen's determination to improve in athletics while maintaining academic prominence is a great model for all student-athletes at Portland State.
"Trey has been a great asset to our men's basketball team," said Fabian. "He has overcome high school injuries to be a very productive lifter and player on the court for our program. Trey goes above and beyond in the weight room to better himself for the court. He would come in on game days to make up lifts our team couldn't get in because of COVID make up games. He is a great representative of what a NSCA All-American is about."
"Emily has worked so hard since she set foot on campus. She has used the weight room to her advantage to put her and her team in a position of winning," Fabian said. "She is a Big Sky Softball Champion and was a member of the 2021 All Big Sky Tournament Team. Emily is a leader on and off the field through her actions."
"We are proud to have Scott Fabian join the NSCA in its mission to safely improve athletic performance," says Eric McMahon, NSCA's Coaching and Sport Science Program Manager, "Supporting student-athletes like Trey and Emily guarantees a stronger future for the NSCA."
