Martinez Named Offensive Player of the Week for Second Week in a Row

In news that should surprise no one at this point, Knights Freshman Andrew Martinez had another very good week of soccer. In two games this week, Martinez scored three goals to help the Knights stay undefeated to start the season. His performance was good enough to earn him the honor or being named CCC rize Laboratory Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week.

On Friday, Martinez scored an insurance goal late in the game against College of Idaho to help the Knights secure a 3-1 victory. The next day Martinez scored both of Warner's goals in the 2-1 win over Eastern Oregon University.

With his performance this weekend, Martinez now has 12 goals in seven games this season. Martinez leads the CCC in goals this season by a wide margin, with second place having only half the goals that Martinez does.

The goal count for Martinez also gives him a real shot at making school history this year.

The Warner Pacific record for most goals in a single season is currently 15. That record was set last year by Arturo Bahena. Martinez needs just four goals to have sole possession of the record. With 11 games left in the year and Martinez averaging 1.7 goals per game, there is a real chance that we see history be made this year.

Martinez will be in action again this weekend when the Knights travel to take on Carroll College Sept. 23 and Walla Walla University Sept. 25.
