Portland State women's tennis freshman Elizabeth Strongina has been named the Big Sky Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the first time in her career, the conference announced on Wednesday.

The honor follows Strongina's 4-0 week against North Dakota and Sacramento State. The Moscow, Russia native helped lead the Vikings to a 4-3 win over the Fighting Hawks on Wednesday (March 15) followed by a 5-2 victory over Sacramento State on Saturday (March 18).

In Wednesday's match against UND, Strongina notched a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles alongside Nika Beukers before posting a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles over Sapir Sela.

On Saturday, Strongina recorded two more wins, this time against conference opponents. After a hard-fought 7-6 (4) win at No. 3 doubles with Beukers, the freshman capped her impressive week with her third-straight singles win, a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles over Tsveti Yotova.

With seven matches remaining in the regular season, Strongina leads the Vikings with an 8-5 singles record, earning wins at the top three spots so far this season.
