Trey Newmann recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts for the Portland Pilots on Apr. 18, but the team lost to the San Francisco Dons by a score of 5-4 in Game 2 of their series. The defeat brings Portland’s record to 21-15 overall and an even 7-7 in West Coast Conference play.
Newmann’s performance on the mound was notable, as he allowed four runs and six hits over six innings while setting a season-best mark for strikeouts by any Pilot pitcher this year. Ky Hoskinson was charged with the loss after pitching one and a third innings with one run allowed, while Alex Via contributed with nearly two innings without giving up any runs.
Portland struggled offensively early in the game, managing just two hits before rallying in the seventh inning. With two outs, Dakota Chun delivered an RBI single followed by Leo Cote hitting his fourth home run of the season—a three-run pinch-hit homer that tied the game at four runs apiece. Aaron Louis led Portland hitters with two hits in four at-bats.
San Francisco took an early lead with a three-run homer in the third inning and added another run in the fourth. After Portland tied it up late, San Francisco regained control in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly that proved decisive.
The teams are scheduled to play again tomorrow at Joe Etzel Field for the series finale. Fans can find ticket information and updates on upcoming games through official channels.
