Two Mexican nationals, Alejandra Diaz-Alcantar, 45, and Juan Alberto Alvarado-Gonzalez, 31, have been charged with conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine. Both individuals were reportedly residing unlawfully in the United States.
The charges stem from an incident in Lane County, Oregon, where an Oregon State Police K9 trooper stopped a white Chevrolet pickup on Interstate 5 as part of an ongoing investigation. A search warrant was executed on the vehicle, leading to the discovery of two duffel bags hidden under the rear passenger seat. The bags contained 56 plastic packages believed to be methamphetamine, with a total weight of approximately 72 pounds.
The Drug Enforcement Administration is currently investigating the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Huynh is handling the prosecution.
“A criminal complaint is only an accusation of a crime, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty,” according to law enforcement officials who requested not to be named specifically.
This case highlights continued efforts by federal and state agencies to address drug trafficking along major transportation routes such as Interstate 5.
