Warner Pacific University Interim Director of Athletics Matt Gregg, announced earlier today, on July 18th, the hiring of Luke Burns to the position of Director of Athletic Communications for WPU Athletics.

"We are excited to welcome Luke to the Warner Pac! He and I share a lot of the same ideas on how to grow fan support and to promote our athletes to make this the best possible student-athlete experience," exclaimed Gregg.

Warner Pacific's previous Director of Athletic Communications, Clayton Messerle, will be departing for another opportunity within collegiate athletics, but will be assisting with a timely transitionary period while Burns settles into his new role.

"Clayton will be missed, not only by the staff, but by the student-athletes as well. He poured his heart into making our athletes feel seen. We were just starting to find a rhythm, but another opportunity to share his creativity came across for him. I wish him the best moving forward, and thank him for all the help he provided to me in my own transitionary period," Gregg concluded.

Luke grew up in Covington, Washington before moving to Camas, Washington in the summer of 2011. He graduated from Camas High School and then attended Clark College for two years before transferring to Whitworth University to complete his Bachelor's degree in Communications. His past experience in athletics includes being a part of Camas High School's first ever student-led sports broadcasting team, completing an internship with the Duluth Huskies (a summer wooden bat collegiate baseball team), and covering high school football games for The Columbian newspaper.

"I'm excited about this opportunity, and I want to thank Clayton for all the work that he has done to help me transition into this role," Luke said. "I look forward to promoting Warner Pacific and serving our student-athletes. Go Knights!"

Burns will officially take up his new post at WPU later this month, and will jump right into the swing of the upcoming fall sport seasons. Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, and Women's Volleyball are all slated to begin preseason workouts and non-conference contests later this upcoming August.
