Beavers Take Down Pioneers
The Oregon State men's basketball team won its third-straight game Wednesday evening, as the Beavers took down Denver 57-52 at Gill Coliseum.
Glenn Taylor Jr. finished in double-figures for the third-straight game, scoring 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting. Jordan Pope tallied 10 points, including two vital free throws down the stretch, while Nick Krass had nine points, two of which came on a baseline jumper to help the Beavers overcome a late deficit.
Justin Rochelin finished with eight points, knocking down all four of his free throw attempts. Dzmitry Ryuny had seven points and five rebounds, while Michael Rataj pulled down nine boards.
Oregon State held Denver to 0-for-11 shooting from beyond the arc in the contest
The offenses were slow to get going, as Denver took a 4-1 lead into the game's first media timeout. After an extended slow start, the Oregon State offense exploded for 10-straight points to give the Beavers their first lead at 15-14, five minutes before the break.
Oregon State headed to the break up 20-18.
The Beavers extended the advantage to 29-22 early in the 2nd half, but the Pioneers responded with a 12-1 run to retake the lead. Oregon State again evened things up at 38 as the sides headed to the under-8 media break.
The Pioneers took an eight-point lead with five minutes left, but again the Beavers answered, evening things up at 46 with 2:30 to play. The two sides traded punches down the stretch. Pope knocked down a pair of free throws with 28 seconds left to put Oregon State ahead 53-52. The Beavers iced the game from there to take the win by five.
The Beavers will now take a 10-day break from action, before returning to take on Oregon in the Rivalry Game on Dec. 31 in Eugene.
