Summer Institutes at EOU provide more than opportunity, they provide credit hours

The Summer Institutes at Eastern Oregon University (EOU) are a great way for high school students to keep learning through the summer as well as earn college credit.

The institutes are designed to allow high school students to experience campus, explore different colleges and majors, and get started on their path to becoming a Mountaineer.

High school students that participate in an institute may be eligible to earn college credit.Opportunities include the Cottonwood Crossing Summer Institute (CCSI) a week-long residential field studies program for high school students currently in grades 9-12, held at the Cottonwood Canyon State Park. MedQuest, a week-long health career camp gives students an exclusive look at the world of healthcare, the Eastern Oregon Teacher Academy at Eastern Oregon University (EOU) aims to attract the brightest high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors and encourage them to pursue teaching careers.

Students attending Wonderlandia will analyze a short play script or one act, explore costume design, and explore folk elements of Spanish-American music while becoming familiar with the central social, cultural, political, and economic developments in the history of Hispanic and Latinx communities in the United States.

Students participating in Life: Past, Present, and Future, can select between Ancient Life, Human Disease and Epidemiology, and Pond Snail Sensory Physiology in a hands-on exploration of past life on earth. The student will work directly with fossil organisms including trilobites, turtles, sharks, mammoths, and oreodons. Principles of epidemiology will be explored, and through the application of scientific theory and findings, disease prevention and treatment will be analyzed.

For young entrepreneurs, the EOU Shark Tank might be the summer institute for you. Use the resources of EOU and the expertise of the local community and faculty to plan your future business.
