The Oregon Senate is weighing a bill that could hold property owners and general contractors accountable for unpaid wages owed by subcontractors. Senate Bill 426 aims to address wage denial issues, though this practice is already illegal. The bill proposes a shift in liability to businesses without direct control over their subcontractors.

SB 426 was passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee on March 26, with a 4-2 vote, and is now moving to the Senate Floor for further consideration. With a floor vote approaching, the NFIB encourages small business owners to express their opinions on the matter.

NFIB has provided a link for its members to easily reach out to their elected officials and urge them to oppose the bill.

For those interested in joining NFIB, the opportunity is available with more details on their platform.
