Fundamental to education is the pursuit of truth. Education that works well for human beings has a right concept of humanity at its core. While information transfer is often the focus of education, such transfers work best when students are invited to practice the skill of integrating what they learn into a meaningful whole.
In this talk, Eliot contends that discussion is an excellent way to help students gain such practice because discussion speaks to man’s God-given moral nature. By cultivating active engagement, self-reflection, and healthy relationships, discussion can bring a level of personal accountability to one’s education that is integral to moving toward truth and goodness.
