Warner Pacific University Men's Soccer Head Coach Troy Ready announced this morning, on April 26th, the signing of freshman midfielder Brian Enrique Canela Portillo to the 2022 Men's Soccer recruiting class.
"Brian is a great signing for our program. He adds further depth to our midfield core and will immediately be competing to establish his place within the team," said Coach Ready.
"Brian is technical and also is a very mobile player that consistently finds himself in the right place at the right time. The sky is the limit for Brian and we're excited to have him joining the team!" Ready declared.
Canela is coming to Warner Pacific straight out of the high school level, as he will be graduating from David Douglas High School this upcoming spring after playing four seasons of Varsity Boys' Soccer. As a student-athlete with the Scots, Canela earned Second Team All-Conference honors at the midfielder position, leading David Douglas to multiple Mt. Hood 6A-4 Conference Championships.
At the club level, Canela and his squad celebrated various tournament championships, including the Mt. Hood Challenge Championship and Directors Mortgage Summer Slam Championship.
Canela is currently undecided on his major/minor while at Warner Pacific, and will soon be making the move to the Pacific Northwest to join his new teammates.
