The railroad crossing on Pole Line Lane in Baker County is set to undergo safety improvements. An online open house, available until April 6, provides detailed information about the project and allows community members to stay involved by offering comments and signing up for updates.

The improvements aim to enhance safety at the railroad crossing, located near U.S. 30 at milepost 44, approximately 3.5 miles south of Haines and 5.5 miles north of Baker City. The Union Pacific Railroad operates the rail and owns the right of way, while Baker County owns and maintains Pole Line Lane.

The project is currently in the design phase, which will continue through 2025. Bidding is scheduled for December 2025, with construction planned for 2026.

For those interested in learning more about this initiative or participating in the online open house, further information can be found on the Pole Line Lane Rail Crossing (Haines) project webpage. Questions regarding the open house can be directed to Vicki Moles, Community Affairs Specialist, at 541-620-4527 or via email at vicki.l.moles@odot.oregon.gov.
