Beaver Nation enthusiasts have a new way to express their support for Oregon State University. Starting April 7, the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will offer an OSU Beaver license plate to the public.
The plates come with an additional $40 charge at the time of purchase and with each renewal or replacement, on top of regular registration fees. This surcharge can be paid directly or through a pre-paid voucher.
After covering administrative costs, the Oregon Department of Transportation will deposit the net proceeds from this surcharge into an account for Oregon State University. The funds are earmarked specifically for supporting Oregon State Athletics.
"Your support will help maintain competitive success and scholastic excellence to not only support the holistic development of our student-athletes, but also bring joy to Beaver Nation," stated Carson Dunlap, Director of University Marketing at OSU.
OSU managed to sell over 3,000 vouchers in advance, making it possible for the plate to be implemented. The design received approval from ODOT after consultations with OSU and testing by relevant authorities including the Washington State Tolling Division.
The Beaver plate joins a variety of specialty registration plates offered by DMV such as Crater Lake, Cultural Trust, Gray Whale, and others.
Those interested in acquiring a Beaver license plate can do so via mail, at DMV locations, or through licensed dealers. However, redeeming a pre-paid voucher must be done either at a DMV office or by mailing it to DMV headquarters; online redemption is not available. DMV staff will verify paper vouchers using their unique numbers.
Further information about Oregon license plates is available on the DMV's website.
