The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced the second cohort of its "High School to Highway" trainee program. This initiative targets high school seniors and recent graduates, offering full-time, paid hands-on training in roadway maintenance starting in July 2025. The program offers a starting salary of $3,856 per month, with a raise after six months, and takes place in various locations across Oregon, including Bend, Roseburg, Seaside, and The Dalles.
Participants will work outdoors on a maintenance crew, gaining experience by performing tasks such as repairing roads and bridges and learning alongside experienced mentors. As outlined by ODOT, the program aims to provide young adults with "a great opportunity for job seekers who are looking to start a career in road maintenance, no experience required." This program is funded by the Federal-aid State Core Program Funds, focusing on "Training, Education and Workforce Development," as per United States Code, Section 504(e). It's designed to help introduce young adults to career opportunities in state government, while equipping them with necessary skills for roadway maintenance and construction.
Applications are open until April 24, 2025, and can be submitted by visiting www.ODOTJobs.com. Prospective participants are encouraged to search for "H2H" on the website for application details. The program includes hiring locations such as Arlington, Banks, Bates, Canyon City, Central Point, and many others across the state of Oregon.
