Holiday Bowl trip offers opportunities beyond football | University of Oregon
When the Ducks fly south for the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 28, the University of Oregon will be represented by more than just the football team. Joining the players will be university representatives who will meet with prospective students and families, assist a local food bank, and gather with fans.
The UO Office of Admissions will host a reception for prospective students and their families on Tuesday, Dec. 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego. Guests can meet university representatives, chat with other prospective students and families, and learn more about what it’s like to be a UO student. Registration is required.
“Annual bowl visits have become an important part of our student recruitment efforts,” said Roger Thompson, vice president for student services and enrollment management. “The Holiday Bowl game provides an opportunity for us to connect with students and families in Southern California and specifically San Diego, which has been a strong region for us.”
“Our team is excited to share all the aspects of the student experience, as well as the quality of the academic and research opportunities available at the University of Oregon,” Thompson said.
Also happening on Tuesday, Dec. 27, the UO will have a team of volunteers packaging food boxes at the San Diego Food Bank. This event is part of the UO’s longstanding tradition of organizing volunteer service projects to support the local community at bowl games.
“Contributing to the community is an important part of our university mission, and we’re thrilled to serve the community of San Diego by offering a service project at the San Diego Food Bank,” said Kris Winter, interim vice president for student life. “We want to give back to the community that is hosting us.”
On Wednesday, Dec. 28, the Ducks will take on the University of North Carolina for the Holiday Bowl. The game will be broadcast on the Fox network; kickoff is at 5 p.m.
For fans with tickets to the game, the UO Alumni Association and athletics department are teaming up for the Mighty Oregon Tailgate. Registration is required.
