Free Community English Language Learning Classes
At Multnomah, it is our mission to equip Christian students to become servant leaders. Our students and professors engage in community service throughout the year, and our TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) students get to serve our community using their skills, training, and gifting.
Every Wednesday during our Fall and Spring semesters, Multnomah offers free community ESOL classes (English for Speakers of Other Languages). These classes are designed to meet language needs in our community while providing Multnomah’s TESOL students a supervised teaching experience in authentic English language learning classrooms. They also provide opportunity to engage in reciprocal hospitality as we delight in getting to know our linguistically diverse neighbors.
Since 2008, these classes have served over 1,200 English language learners from more than 70 different language backgrounds. Through this program, Multnomah’s student-teachers deliver excellence in language instruction as they work with a faculty mentor to design customized lessons to meet language needs in our local community. Classes are available for beginner, intermediate, and advanced language learners. All are welcome to come to learn and practice English together.
If you have a heart for service and a passion for language, teaching, and travel, pursuing one of our TESOL programs is a great step toward achieving your career and ministry goals. With undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs available online or on-campus, TESOL at Multnomah will prepare you to step confidently into a space of service and hospitality toward language learners.
