A landslide has forced the closure of OR 224, located four miles west of the Ripplebrook Ranger Station, following heavy rainfall on Sunday, February 23, 2025. The closure has prompted authorities to set up a local detour, though travelers are advised to avoid the area due to safety concerns.
On Monday morning, crews evaluated the site and outlined their plan for debris removal. Given that the region remains wet and more rain is anticipated, cleanup efforts will commence once weather conditions improve. "Debris removal could begin as early as Tuesday, Feb. 25," officials noted.
The affected area was previously impacted by the Riverside Fire in 2020 and continues to experience stability issues as it recovers. Additional rainfall poses a risk of further delaying cleanup operations.
Authorities have reiterated that while a detour is available, travelers should exercise caution due to other minor slides in the vicinity. Drivers are urged to stay alert and adjust their speed according to road conditions.
