Starting March 10 and continuing through March 13, crews from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will be working to remove rocks that fell during January storms. The work is set to take place on Interstate 84 near Rowena Bluffs, east of Mosier at milepost 74.
The rock removal process will necessitate closing one lane of the eastbound side of I-84 to allow large excavators to operate safely. ODOT warns that eastbound travelers should anticipate delays of up to 20 minutes between Monday and Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. "Delay times may vary based on traffic," they noted.
This operation is crucial because the fallen rocks have filled the catchment area, and any additional rockfall could spill onto the interstate if not cleared promptly.
