The Oregon Department of Transportation has announced ongoing work on the OR 58 Salt Creek Bridge, approximately near milepost 43, east of Oakridge. The project involves the use of automated flagger assistant devices to manage traffic flow in the work zone while ensuring the safety of onsite workers.

Motorists traveling through the area are advised to adhere to specific safety guidelines when encountering these devices. Drivers are instructed to "Stop when the light is red and the flag is down" and to "Wait for the arm to be fully up before you start moving." Additionally, there are instructions to "Drive carefully when the light is flashing orange and the flag is up."

ODOT notes the presence of personnel controlling these automated devices, although they may not be immediately visible to drivers, stressing that these operators ensure the smooth movement of traffic.

Construction activities will include "Crews working during the day” and may involve "Single lane closures with traffic controlled by an automated flagger assistant device." Manual flaggers may also be utilized to guide traffic as necessary. Travelers should anticipate noise and potential delays due to construction operations.

Efforts are underway to build a temporary detour bridge, which will eventually serve to redirect traffic. ODOT promises to inform the public when traffic is shifted to this detour bridge.

For additional information or inquiries, Mindy McCartt, Public Information Officer, can be contacted at 503-507-6045. ODOT encourages the dissemination of this information to wider networks and offers translation and interpretation services upon request for ADA Title II or Civil Rights Title VI accommodations.

Drivers should be aware that traffic fines are doubled in all Oregon work zones regardless of the presence of workers or signs. ODOT also advises checking TripCheck.com or calling 5-1-1 for continuous road condition and traffic updates.

Finally, the department reminds travelers that from May 7, 2025, a federally accepted ID will be required for flying, urging individuals to be "REAL ID ready."
