Next week, construction crews will be working in Lincoln City's Lincoln Beach and downtown areas to enhance curb ramps and upgrade traffic signals at selected intersections along U.S. 101. The project aims to improve accessibility and safety for all pedestrians, including those with disabilities.
Work is scheduled to begin on April 14, focusing on intersections at N 17th Street, SE 1st Street, N 22nd Street, and N 6th Street. During this period, daytime single lane closures on U.S. 101 should be anticipated, although traffic signals will remain operational. Should signals cease to function, drivers are reminded that intersections should be regarded as four-way stops.
The traffic signal upgrades are expected to be completed by the end of May, ensuring they are functional in time for the summer. Pedestrians are advised to use designated crossings for safety, as certain crossings may be temporarily closed during construction.
Throughout the project, construction activities will occur Monday through Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., resulting in occasional shoulder and lane closures, traffic delays managed by flaggers, and noise from equipment. Businesses along the route will remain open.
The construction project underscores the importance of ADA curb ramps, which facilitate easier movement for those using wheelchairs, strollers, and other mobility aids. They ensure more accessible navigation between sidewalks and roads.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the project and other ongoing roadwork by visiting the U.S. 101 Lincoln City ADA Curb Ramps webpage. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) reminds drivers to exercise caution in work zones, adhere to posted signs, and support local businesses.
For further information or accommodations regarding ADA Title II or Civil Rights Title VI, interested parties can contact the TTY number provided or use the Oregon Relay Service. Information is also available in Spanish upon request. ODOT emphasizes its commitment to non-discrimination and equal opportunity employment practices.
