The Oregon Department of Transportation is currently undertaking a significant construction project along OR 58, focusing on replacing the Salt Creek Bridge near milepost 43, east of Oakridge. A temporary detour bridge is being constructed to minimize travel disruptions, and traffic will be shifted to this detour once completed before workers tackle the new permanent Salt Creek Bridge.

Construction crews are working multiple shifts to maintain progress, handling tasks like removing hazardous trees and establishing a detour bridge in two separate, nearby locations. Travelers should expect single-lane closures with traffic directed by an automated flagger assistant device (AFAD), which mimics the function of a traffic signal or a flagger with a paddle. "As you approach the work zone, you'll see an automated flagger assistant device, or AFAD, at both ends to help guide you through the work zone while keeping our workers safe."

Drivers should adhere to specific guidelines when navigating the work zone: "Stop when the light is red and the flag is down. Wait for the arm to be fully up before you start moving. Drive carefully when the light is flashing orange and the flag is up." These measures are in place to ensure safety for both commuters and construction workers.

The department also emphasizes the importance of safe driving practices in work zones, highlighting that "fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not."

For real-time road conditions and traffic alerts, drivers are encouraged to visit TripCheck.com or call 5-1-1.

Further inquiries about the project can be directed to Mindy McCartt, the Public Information Officer, at 503-507-6045. Individuals requiring translation or interpretation services may contact the Oregon Relay Service.
