Today, Sept. 17, is National Voter Registration Day, a day designated to focus attention and efforts on registering new voters across the country.

Eligible Oregonians have until October 15 to register to vote ahead of the upcoming Nov. 5 general election. Residents should register to vote if they are U.S. citizens, turn 18 on or before Election Day, have recently moved to Oregon, or are residents who live in Oregon but haven’t already registered.

Oregonians who are unsure if their registration status is up-to-date can check and update it online or at their local county election office.

Registering to vote in Oregon is quick and simple. Oregonians can register or check and update their registration status online using the My Vote tool, register by mail using a voter registration form available in multiple languages, or register in person at the county elections office.

The nonpartisan Election Protection hotline is a resource staffed by volunteer lawyers and election experts who can help with eligibility and voter registration questions or other election-related issues. Help can be reached at:

In support of National Voter Registration Day, Kate Titus, executive director of Common Cause Oregon issued the following statement: “Democracy depends on us. We must protect it — and use it — to keep it alive. Some of us may take pride or comfort that we live in a democracy with the right to vote. But that right only matters if we actually use it, and if we defend it for every eligible voter.”
