The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) is seeking applicants for 72 commissioner positions across 22 commodity commissions. These commissions cover various agricultural and commercial fisheries sectors in the state. The application deadline is April 6, 2025.

According to the ODA, commissioners are appointed by the Director and serve as public officials, typically for three-year terms. Their responsibilities include decision-making on funding related to promotion, education, and research projects. The Director aims to appoint individuals who reflect the diversity among Oregon's farmers, ranchers, processors, and commercial fisheries.

For those interested in serving as public members on these commissions, they must be U.S. citizens residing in Oregon with an active interest in improving economic conditions for their chosen commodity. Importantly, they cannot have direct associations with producing or handling that specific commodity.

Applicants for producer or handler roles must also be U.S. citizens residing in Oregon. They should have paid or collected assessments for their respective commodities over the past three years or longer in some cases. Producers are defined as growers or harvesters, while handlers are those who first purchase commodities from producers—often processors, distributors, or marketers.

A range of commissions has vacancies available:

- The Oregon Albacore Commission seeks three producers and two handlers.

- The Oregon Beef Council requires two producers.

- Openings at the Oregon Blueberry Commission include two producers and one handler.

- The Oregon Clover Commission needs one producer and two handlers.

- For the Oregon Dairy Products Commission: two producers and one public member are sought.

- Other commissions with openings include those dealing with Dungeness Crab, Fine Fescue, Hazelnuts, Hemp, Hops, Mint, Potatoes, Processed Vegetables, Raspberries & Blackberries among others.

Those interested can find further instructions on how to apply through official channels provided by the ODA.
