Construction projects in Pendleton are set to resume this spring, according to recent updates. Crews will restart their curb ramp upgrades that began last year.

Beginning March 31, electrical work will be carried out along U.S. 395 (Southgate), starting from Southwest 30th Street and heading north. This phase will not involve any lane closures according to the project statement. The following week, from April 7, the focus will shift to the intersection of U.S. 395 (Southgate) and Southwest Hailey Avenue/Tutuilla Road. If lane closures become necessary, work will transition to night shifts.

Additionally, starting April 7, the construction of curb ramps will resume along Southeast Court Street, commencing at Southeast 17th Street. By mid-April, crews will continue curb ramp upgrades on U.S. 395.

The project involves replacing asphalt walkways with wider concrete sidewalks along U.S. 395, specifically between Tutuilla Road and Southwest Perkins Avenue. Further enhancements include installing pedestrian-activated flashing beacons at identified locations on OR 11 and adding bike lanes from the Interstate 84 interchange to Southeast Court Avenue.

During construction, residents can expect shoulder and lane closures, potential intermittent side street closures, and assistance from flaggers. Pedestrian access will be maintained, and businesses along the routes will remain operational.

ADA-compliant curb ramps are highlighted as crucial for providing better mobility for pedestrians, individuals using wheelchairs, strollers, and bicycles. The project aims to ensure that construction priorities address locations prepared for immediate work, with adjustments based on coordination or design needs.
