The Prineville branch of the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is closed today due to staffing concerns, according to the agency. Located at 1595 E. Third St., officials shared that real-time updates about office closures can be accessed through the Oregon DMV website. Additionally, the site can be used to determine whether DMV services can be completed online via the DMV2U portal.
The closure information coincides with impending requirements related to air travel. As of May 7, 2025, individuals 18 years and older will need to present a REAL ID, or an acceptable alternative such as a government-issued passport, passport card, or military ID, in order to board commercial flights within the United States. Those not needing to travel soon are advised to wait until their credentials require renewal to obtain a REAL ID, or alternatively, use a passport if available.
For those planning to fly in the near future, it is essential to account for the processing time required to receive a REAL ID. Officials have noted that up to three weeks may be needed for the delivery of a REAL ID card by mail. Consequently, individuals planning to fly on May 7 should have initiated their REAL ID application by April 16 to ensure compliance with the new federal regulations.
Any inquiries from the public regarding the recent closure or the new air travel requirements can be directed to the number listed on the Oregon DMV website.
