The Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced that its Eugene office, located at 499 Valley River Center, will be closed to the public on April 18 for essential maintenance. The office plans to reopen its doors on April 21. During this one-day closure, Eugene DMV staff will be assisting at nearby locations to accommodate redirected customers.
The Springfield DMV, located at 204 N 30th St., will be available for visitors on April 18, operating from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additionally, the Junction City DMV, found at 235 W 4th Ave., which typically does not operate on Fridays, will open specifically for REAL ID appointments on that day, also from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. These appointments must be scheduled online beforehand. Other services will be redirected, and Eugene drive tests will take place in Junction City on April 18.
Additionally, over 20 services remain accessible online through DMV2U, and vehicle registration renewals can be completed at the DMV Express Kiosk inside the Fred Meyer at 3333 W 11th Ave. in Eugene. When the Eugene DMV reopens on April 21, its hours will remain unchanged: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The DMV advises customers to verify their DMV office's operating status before visiting. With the federal REAL ID deadline approaching on May 7, there is an anticipated increase in demand at many DMV locations, leading to extended wait times. Customers are advised to obtain a ticket and inquire about text notifications to manage their wait time more effectively.
Those planning to board a plane on or after May 7 must possess a REAL ID-compliant card if they are 18 years or older and lack a valid passport or alternate federally accepted ID. It’s important to note that REAL ID cards may take up to three weeks to arrive by mail. Individuals not planning to fly soon can consider delaying obtaining a REAL ID until their credential renewal is due.
