If you have been navigating through downtown Corvallis recently, you might have noticed ongoing work on the OR 34 Van Buren Bridge. The next phase of this project will involve the Harrison Boulevard Bridge, where a platform is being installed to access the drain and sewer system. Due to the weight of this platform, a temporary weight restriction is being implemented in the right lane.
The new regulation stipulates that oversized vehicles exceeding 98,000 pounds must use the left lane when crossing the Harrison Boulevard Bridge. This restriction will be effective from February 27 until May 2.
In addition to these changes, construction activities on the Van Buren Bridge are also affecting pedestrian routes. During daytime hours, crews will be working, which may cause construction noise. Pedestrians will need to find alternate routes as sidewalks on NW Van Buren Avenue and crosswalks at NW 1st Street are closed. Access between NW Van Buren Avenue and NW 1st Street is restricted; however, businesses remain open and can be accessed via NW Jackson Avenue.
Motorists are reminded to exercise caution in work zones by slowing down and watching for signs and workers. It's important to note that fines double in all Oregon work zones regardless of whether workers or signs are present.
The community is encouraged to share this information with others so they can stay informed about these developments and sign up for email updates regarding ongoing projects.
